Kai Ludwig has been extensively active in international and national sports law for more than 15 years. He is preferably active in football (employment-, disciplinary- and transfer-related matters). His core competence is advising professional football players, coaches, managers, intermediaries, sports clubs, sports federations and commercial and media rights distributors and he has represented clients in a large number of procedures before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS/CAS), FIFA and UEFA deciding bodies and ordinary courts. He specialises in dealing with challenging, complex employment- and transfer-related matters and enjoys an excellent reputation among professional football players, coaches, managers, clubs and intermediaries as a tough but always fair and solution-oriented lawyer.
After having studied law in Jena (GER) and Cork (IRL) and worked on a development project in Quito (ECU), Kai has been employed at the German Embassy in Berne and subsequently served as court officer at the Cantonal Court of the Swiss Canton Schwyz, before he joined a major Swiss sports law boutique in 2007. For two years he then served as CEO of the FIFA subsidiary Early Warning System in Zurich.
Kai is admitted to both the Zurich and Munich Bar, serves as Vice President and Board Member of the German-Swiss Society of Sports Law ("Deutsch-Schweizerische Gesellschaft für SportRecht") and is a Member of the International Association of Football Lawyers ("Association Internationale des Avocats du Football", AIAF), Member of REX SPORT, ASOCIACIÓN DE ASESORES DEL DEPORTE, Member of the Swiss Sports Law Association ("Association Suisse de Droit du Sport"), Member of the German Bar Association, Munich Bar Association, and the working group on sports law of the German Bar Association (ARGE Sportrecht DAV). He publishes regularly in the field of sports law and speaks German, English and Spanish.
