Anna Smirnova joined monteneri sports law in 2009. She mainly focuses on international sports law but has also experience in advising on investment projects, M&A and corporate issues.
Anna is particularly experienced in dispute resolution and representing clients before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS/CAS), the FIFA Player's Status Committee and Dispute Resolution Chamber, as well as before the FIFA and UEFA disciplinary bodies.
In 2006, Anna joined the Saint Petersburg branch of Charbourne & Parke LLP, where she was in charge of handling the clients’ M&A and corporate issues, and advised on implementation of public private partnership (PPP) projects in the North-West region of Russia.
Since 2010 through 2013, Anna worked as a senior counsel for JSC “Ilim Group”, one of the global leaders in pulp and paper industry. Anna advised on the establishment of international joint-ventures with world chemical leaders, handled international commercial arbitration cases as well as advised on specific international law issues, such as implementation of the Kyoto Protocol to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the aftermath of accession of the Russian Federation to the World Trade Organization.
Since 2017 Anna has been appointed by as a member of the World Athletics Disciplinary Tribunal, and since 2021 Anna is also a member of the ITTF Tribunal.
