Swiss-born Gianpaolo Monteneri (1970) is a highly regarded expert in the field of international sports and football law.
After graduating as a Swiss lawyer, Gianpaolo joined the world governing body of football FIFA in 1997 as Head of the Players' Status Department.
For more than 8 years, Gianpaolo headed a team of international lawyers at FIFA in charge of investigating commercial and labour disputes involving mostly clubs, federations, players, coaches and agents.
He left FIFA in 2005 to establish monteneri sports law, which under his leadership has developed into a renowned international sports law firm.
Gianpaolo has represented clients in more than 100 procedures before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS/CAS), a large number of procedures before the FIFA Player's Status Committee and Dispute Resolution Chamber, as well as before the FIFA and UEFA Disciplinary Committees.
Gianpaolo speaks Italian, German, English, Spanish, French and Portuguese.
Gianpaolo lectures at the University of Zurich's Masters of International Sports Law as well as at the UEFA Football Law Programme and other Masters of Sports Law programs at universities around the world.
He is also a professional speaker at international sports law conferences.
From 2007 until 2014 Gianpaolo was the Academic Director of the Rex Sport-ISDE Masters in International Sports Law in Madrid.
